 About the journal
.
19&20 is an independent electronic journal primarly dedicated to the study of Brazilian arts and visual cultures of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It deals with subjects related to the visual arts in general (painting, sculpture, architecture and decorative/applied arts), art criticism, art education and institutions that protect and promote the heritage of the period.
.
The major aim of 19&20 is to promote an expansion of the canon related to the art and artists of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries beyond the excessively reduced limits delimited by Brazilian modernist historiography. In order to do so, the journal is open to diverse historical and theoretical approaches, accepting contributions from all Brazilian states and from other countries, which could demonstrate the mutual interconnection between the categories and levels of the Brazilian artistic field, as well as between the later and the international field, illuminating zones of  inter-cultural contact.
